World’s highest restaurant in Dubai
Previously, the world’s highest restaurant was 360, at a height of 350 metres in Toronto’s CN Tower. The restaurant at the highest elevation is the Chacaltaya Ski Resort, outside Bolivia’s capital, La Paz, with 5421m.
The luxury lifestyle hits a new high in Dubai with the opening this week of At.mosphere, a chi-chi fine-dining venue that is the world’s highest restaurant in a building.
At.mosphere, situated 442 metres above ground on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, opens to dinner guests today, but anyone looking for a table this week will be put on a wait list, insiders said.
Atmosphere in Dubai’s 828-metre (2,716.5-feet) building is “one of the finest luxury dining and lounge experiences in the world,” said Emaar Hospitality Group, an arm of giant property developer Emaar.
At.mosphere is reached by its own private elevator from the tower’s corporate suites lobby and can accommodate 210 people over a lounge and grill, each with an unparalleled view of the emirate’s eye-popping skyline.
While there is no minimum spend, punters must call and book ahead to be granted access to the tower, which is perhaps Dubai’s highest security zone.
Dardenne described the food as modern eclectic European cuisine with an emphasis on grilled items.
On the menu are starters such as chestnut and pheasant soup, priced at Dh120, and free-range Australian salt bush lamb at Dh260 or grilled Maine lobster at Dh590. For dessert, the gianduja chocolate mousse costs Dh75, while a cheese platter for low-carb dieters notches up Dh120. An espresso costs Dh30.
For drinks and snacks in the lounge area, guests must spend AED200 ($54.45) per head.
At two levels below the tower’s observation deck, the “world’s highest restaurant” can host “over 210 guests and features a spacious arrival lobby, a main dining floor, private dining rooms and display cooking stations.”
In addition to apartments, offices and Italian designer Giorgio Armani’s signature hotel, the building has an observation deck on the 124th floor, open to visitors at an entrance fee of at least 100 dirhams (27 dollars) per adult.

New Year in Dubai: World’s highest fireworks display this New Year’s Eve
The shiny emirate will host the world’s highest fireworks display this New Year’s Eve when the Burj Khalifa is lit up at a gala event to ring in 2011.
Developers Emaar Properties promise to provide visitors with an unprecedented spectacle aimed at elevating the city to the league of the world’s most sought-after destinations for New Year’s Eve.
“The celebrations will put the international spotlight on the city, and drive the destination as the must-visit place for New Year’s Eve celebrations,” Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director, Emaar Properties, said in a statement. “The Burj Khalifa New Year’s Eve gala is our tribute to the celebratory spirit of Dubai, home to over 200 nationalities, and a truly global city."
The tower already holds the record for the world's highest fireworks display - registered when it was officially inagurated on January 4, 2010. The emirate also recorded the world's biggest fireworks display in November 2008, when real estate developer Nakheel threw a lavish party to mark the opening of its Atlantis Hotel on The Palm Jumeirah.
The party to bid goodbye to 2010 begins with large television panels around the tower beaming in New Year’s Eve celebrations from around the world, followed by a sound and light show set to world music at the Dubai Fountain, the world’s tallest performing fountain. A countdown will then be displayed on large television panels before a show of lasers, fireworks and lights illuminates the tower.
Celebrations are set to continue well into the early hours of the morning, with The Dubai Fountain performing continuously to a range of music. And party lovers can then head to At The Top, the world’s highest outdoor observation deck.
The event is open to the public, with free entry to the Burj Park, an island overlooking Burj Khalifa, and set on the Burj Lake. The show can also be viewed from the Waterfront Promenade lining the adjacent Dubai Mall.
