How to use the RTA Google map journey planner for Dubai

If you are planning to go to Dubai then visit Google Maps as Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has joined hands with google to offer an interactive dubai street map which will help pedestrian & motorist to reach their desired destination easily. This will also include bus routes, hotels and restaurants. Interesting I say!

A step by step guide on how to search for bus and metro routes in Dubai using Google Maps:
  • Open Google Maps
  • Enter address / location or pinpoint on map.
  • After providing intended destination a choice of directions for driving or walking is given.
  • Sitemap also shows available bus routes and estimated time it takes to reach a destination.
For example if you want metro route from Mall of Emirates to Deira City Centre then google map will help in letting you know how can you manage your journey.

This will also allow users to choose a district and search for restaurants and attractions in that area.
In starting of 2009, RTA has also launched its own journey planner – Wojhati, but it was not welcomed by the audience because of lack of real road mapping. As of now, Google Maps is not providing Metro routes but this feature will soon be added.

“Uploading public bus stops information on Google Earth is an added service that is set to boost Wojhati initiative unleashed by Public Transport Agency in the first quarter of last year. The new initiative will certainly empower larger numbers of users worldwide to access the public bus network in the Emirate of Dubai.
