Don't leave passports with typing centres: Eida

Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) asked ID card applicants not to leave their passports with the certified typing centres which carry out pre-registration process of the ID card registration, a top official told Gulf News yesterday.
"It is illegal on the part of typing centres to keep the passports with them," Dr Ali Al Khoury, Director-General of Eida, said.
As Gulf News reported on Thursday, thousands of residents across the country had risked identity theft by leaving their passports with the certified typing centres following an Eida announcement that a federal law stipulating December 31 as the deadline for expatriates to register for ID cards, was still valid.
He reiterated that no penal action had been decided against ‘non registered' residents.
He said it is individual's duty to not to leave their passports with anybody else.
